The session was held virtually and was chaired by the Head of RTC Mauritius, Mr. D. Magen Maunikum. The training was organized by RTC Mauritius in collaboration with the WCO ESA ROCB. Members present included Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia & Zimbabwe.
The Regional Training Centre, Mauritius (RTC Mauritius) & ROCB, were tasked by the Governing Council to lead the initiative to develop a “Compendium of Training Strategies for the ESA Region” to benefit Customs Administrations within the ESA Region. This initiative includes formulating practical recommendations and promoting regional knowledge sharing.
In his remarks, Mr. Maunikum underscored the importance of developing a compendium of best practices in training, which will serve as a reference tool and showcase the initiatives undertaken by Members. He highlighted that this collection of experiences will be of great benefit to all administrations. Mr. Maunikum also expressed his appreciation to the Members who have already submitted contributions—namely Burundi, Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—and encouraged other Members to do the same.
