The WCO External Relations Coordinator, Mr Shoichi Asano was in Kenya recently and held a meeting with the Director, WCO ESA ROCB on the progress of the ESA Regional Activities/Programmes.

Regional Seminar on WCO Classification Work Model and Advance Tariff Ruling Service

Mombasa Kenya, 8- 11 February 2010

This Seminar is being organized with the support of the Japan / Customs  Co-operation Fund and will support the initiative of the "Revenue Package". Participants from 22 Customs Administrations  of East and Southern Africa will make presentation on tariff classification infrastructure in the respective countries.

The Swedish International Development Agency and National Board of Trade is inviting Customs Administrations of Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique,Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi, to send applications for their nominees to participate in this programme before 1st February 2010

“Customs and business: improving performance through partnerships”

26th January

The International Customs Day which is marked annually on 26th January, will this year focus on promotion of co-operation between all stakeholders in international trade.    The co-operation is geared towards greater appreciation of each player's roles,concerns and objectives and is expected to yield mutually beneficial solutions. 

The WCO has called upon all the stakeholders to demonstrated greater commitment to the partnership and' take bold initiatives aimed at simplification, speed, flexibility, predictability, effectiveness and fairness of procedures'.

Information Management Subcommittee

New French Speaking

Fellowship Programme

Madagascar and Mauritius from East & Southern Africa will send representatives to participate in the 51st Fellowship Programme from 8th February 2010 to 19th March 2010. The Fellowship is an integral component of the Management Development programme of the Capacity Building Directorate, and prepares participants for top-management in their administrations by equipping them on WCO tools and exposing them to relevant international experience necessary for driving the reform and modernization agenda in their home administrations.

Other administrations with participants include; Algeria, Benin, Cameroun, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia.
