𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 – 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢, 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚
7th -9th October 2024.
The WCO ESA ROCB is at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) summit themed “𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞: 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐠𝐞.” The summit brings together hundreds of thought leaders and key stakeholders in customs and revenue administration from across the continent, Commissioner Generals from different Revenue Authorities, with over 70 international guests from across Africa and the world attending the summit.
This event is a unique platform for dialogue on enhancing exports, streamlining trade processes, harnessing the potential of digitalization in cross-border trade, and fostering a secure and dynamic trading environment.
Opening remarks delivered are highlighted as follows:
𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐖. 𝐌𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐝𝐢, Prime Cabinet Secretary, Kenya, formally opened the conference. He pointed out that in an interconnected global economy, the significance of digitalization in promoting inclusive thriving economies cannot be overemphasized. He highlighted the importance of building robust administrations that embrace engagement, partnerships and collaborative dialogues leading to development of progressive policies that will support sustainable development across all economies.
𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐌𝐛𝐚𝐝𝐢, Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury & Economic Planning, Kenya, highlighted the importance of tax collection towards supporting the sustainable growth of economies worldwide. He emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in progressive policy making, to strengthen public understanding and buy in while boosting trust in public institutions.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐌𝐰𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚, Board Chairman, Kenya Revenue Authority, stressed the importance of digitalization in supporting inclusive and equitable trade. He encouraged all Administrations to embrace reforms and modernization initiatives that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of their mandate.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚, Commissioner General, Kenya Revenue Authority highlighted the role of Revenue Authorities in revenue mobilization, facilitating trade, and protecting the society. He stressed the importance of this particular dialogue towards boosting revenue collection and sealing revenue leakage while leveraging on digitalization.
