The 28th meeting of the Finance and Governance Committee (FGC) is currently taking place at the WCO ESA ROCB offices in Nairobi. The meeting is chaired by Mrs. Ethel Chitanda (Zimbabwe) and brings together Heads of Finance from Burundi, Lesotho, and Zambia, alongside the Director of the WCO ESA ROCB, Mr. Larry Liza, and ROCB staff. The committee received the Audited Financial Statements (2024-2025) from the organization’s new auditor, UHY Kenya.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Chitanda expressed appreciation for their continued dedication to strengthening financial governance across the region. She emphasized the Committee’s pivotal role in enhancing regional financial systems and encouraged open, constructive dialogue as members assess progress and set strategic priorities for the coming year.
Mr. Larry Liza updated the Committee on recent developments concerning the proposed Regional Strategy (2025–2028), upcoming regional meetings, and other key matters. He also conveyed greetings from the leadership of the host administration, Kenya, as well as from the ESA Vice Chair, Mauritius.
The Committee is engaged in substantive discussions on regional financial performance, strategic priorities, and the status of implementation of Governing Council resolutions. These deliberations reflect a firm commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of resources.
As the body entrusted with financial oversight, the FGC continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of customs capacity building through effective budgeting, performance monitoring, and strategic alignment.
