The meeting of the WCO ESA RTC Heads, ROCB, RILO and the WCO is currently ongoing, hosted by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Participants include the Heads of the RTC Kenya, RTC Mauritius, RTC South Africa, RTC Zimbabwe as well as the ROCB, the WCO and the RILO.
The Chairperson of the RTC Heads for the year 2024-2025, Mr. Dhoojanaden Maunikum, RTC Mauritius, thanked the government and people of Zimbabwe for the warm welcome accorded to the delegates attending the RTC Heads meeting. He thanked the delegates for attending the meeting and wished for a productive meeting with concrete policy recommendations for adoption by the Governing Council. He thanked the ROCB for coordinating the meeting.
The ROCB Director, Mr. Larry Liza, conveyed his appreciation to the government and people of Zimbabwe for hosting the region for its back to back meetings: the RTC Heads Meeting, the Finance and Governance Committee meeting as well as the 40th RSG Meeting. He also extended regards from the region’s leadership, especially that of the Vice Chair (Mauritius). He appreciated the work that has been put in by all RTCs towards delivering capacity building activities for the region, he also highlighted the crucial roles played by the RTCs in the development of the new regional strategy (2025-28). He highlighted the new objectives of the strategy including: Efficient Trade Facilitation & Integration; Sustainable Revenue Mobilization & Digitalization; Effective Protection of the Society & Environment; and Fostering Professionalism & Partnerships. The Strategy Working Group is chaired by South Africa and deputized by Malawi.
