Public – Private Dialogue on Facilitation of Safe & Efficient Green Trade

4th June 2025

The Public–Private Dialogue (PPD) on Facilitating Safe and Efficient Green Trade is currently underway at the Jacaranda Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The event is a collaborative effort between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA).

As Kenya aligns its trade systems with the imperatives of environmental sustainability, this dialogue marks a strategic step in shaping how the country implements trade procedures under Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), such as the trade in pesticides and industrial chemicals under the Rotterdam Convention, while ensuring trade efficiency and regulatory coherence. This PPD forms part of the inception phase of a broader technical cooperation initiative between GIZ, KRA and KESRA. This session will serve to:

  • Introduce relevant stakeholders to the objectives of the project,
  • Allow for public-private collaboration and dialogue
  • Identify relevant MEAs and commodities that could form the project’s core focus
  • Identify procedural challenges linked to MEA implementation and the movement of goods across Kenyan borders, including compatibility with trade facilitation tools
  • Collect real-world insights to inform policy and operational reforms.
